How do you organize your stash??

I am completely frustrated! I cannot figure out how to organize this massive amount of kits that I have collected. I had bought Digital ScrapRoom awhile ago and thought it was so cool how I could sort everything so when I wanted frames, they would be right there. I really thought I have found the answer with this program...

However, I ended up having major problems. I moved everything over to an EHD, so that completely wiped out all of the organizing I previously had done. I redid a bunch of it, but now that I have more stuff it is just really slow. Just to look through the ribbons that I have would take about 5 minutes. Lately I have just been sticking to one kit to do my layouts because I just don't want to deal with it.

Anyway, I was going to keep going with the organizing tonight, but I thought I should ask to see if there was something else I could try that would be better than this. I would appreciate any ideas on how to get things organized!

Thanks in advance!

I don't have an answer for you as I am in the same dilemma. I am going to to the ACDsee thing once I get up and running again and have photos straightened out. I am going to use one of ACDsee's templates for a styling method.
I do like to use a kit, too, because it takes forever to look for things.

I had all of mine organized by frames, colors of paper, ribbons etc. And I regret organizing that way so I went back to each designer and keeping all of their work together and I like it this way much better. That way the entire layout can coordinate without me digging through each and every folder for hours. That is just my suggestion...

Just like Gwen, everything is organized by website/designer. Most of the time, I don't do mixes, I just use one page kit at a time.

I had started to organize each kit with subfolders names "ribbons - name of the kit - designer - website", "papers - name of the kit - designer - website". This was useful with picasa (from google) which allows you to view folders by name (I could see all papers at once), but that's a lot of work, I can't view all the items of one kit, and it doesn't work well on linux!

I have everything organized by website and then by kit (I haven't gotten as organized as by designer yet) within the website. I'm seriously thinking of buying ACDSee, though, so that I can keep the current organization but add the ability to categorize all the kit previews. That way, I could quickly "flip" through all the previews to see exactly what I had and wanted to use.

As it is right now, I keep forgetting that I have some things--especially if they're from sites I rarely visit/buy from.

Paige, on the ACDsee, you can organize by both kits and individual things, right? That is how I want to do it.

I'm a geek - I wrote my own program so I could organize by all kinds of tags (designers, sites, kit types, etc) I know I could have bought ACDSee, but I wanted to try my own, and I added a credit-writing module to help me with all my credits - I'm always combining things from all kinds of kits and posting credits can sometimes be a pain!

Kathy---yes, ACDSee does both kits and individual elements. When I had the trial, I started out by organizing the individual pieces, but quickly realized that I would have helped myself more if I started with the kits and then went back to the pieces after all the kits were catalogued.

I have a folder for every designer and the kits are subfolders in their folder. I have just gotten AcdSee and I'm in the process of organizing with it. It is taking a very long time because of the amount of my digi stash, but I know I will be happy once I get it all done.
