I definitely agree with you on Johnny Depp--one of my favorite people to watch, quite fascinating and fearless. Don't know if he's got a "touch of madness" or not, but his roles certainly do.

In my honest opinion, he is in a class of very few true Character actors that can be so "in character" that he is able to make you forget who he is and believe the character. I meant it when I said he is masterful. :)
