some of you know I finally got away for a scrapping weekend retreat.
it was great. I brought my laptop and several projects to work on,
and i got to scrap on my computer while others lugged cropper hoppers,
cricut machines, stamps, stacks of paper, cutting tools and tons of other stuff.

when i got home sunday night to turn on my laptop to get stuff uploaded,
it wouldn't start -- just stuck on the windows screen.

the good news is stuff from my HD was recovered, the bad news
is that my laptop was reformatted and I have to start over --- and
the other bad news is 70GB of my scrapping pages and projects are
gone. I had my photos all backed up, but only part way thru my scrapping
stuff.

I am just waiting now for all my data to get copied back.
hopefully when I can see it myself, I will not have lost so much
since I do back up regularly. I just have no clue what is missing

The bad computer gremlins have struck again! So sorry this happened to you, but glad most was backed up. It takes so much time to recover from all that and get everything up and going again.

CARBONITE ... the best $50 bucks I ever spent! I will say that I thought I had lost all my layouts back in the spring. The Geek Squad at Best Buy was able to recover all my files from my trashed hard drive (don't ask me how ... I don't know ... BUT ... I had to pay $200 for the service). With the $200 recovery fee in mind ... I am more than willing to spend a fourth of that for an offsite backup service. Plus ... I have redundant copies of everything on an external hard drive, too. I hope you are able to recover things ...

Oh Liz, that's terrible! I hear of that so often, and I cross my fingers it never happens to me. However, I'm on a Mac, and chances of that happening are so very rare, thank goodness. I do have two external hard drives that I keep everything on though, so hopefully if that day ever comes for me, I'm covered. I hope you had a great weekend at your scrap retreat though, sounds like a lot of fun!

yup, i back up routinely too
six or seven weeks ago my redundant EHD lost one of the drives,
so that became a priority. after i got that worked out, I started
backing up again, but another crash in the middle of it.

so, even when you back up (i have three back ups)
stuff crashes. lesson -- back up regularly.

my photos are always my priority. i back those up weekly.
i got slow on my scrapping stuff though :(
