My little niece, Lily was born last Sunday. I have just had a phone call from my brother to say she has been taken into hospital with a high fever. The doctors don't know what is causing it, but they have mentioned meningitis. She is on broad spectrum antibiotics.

Please, please, if you pray, your prayers for her would be greatly appreciated.

thank you

Thank you. Have just heard from my brother - they are struggling to get a drip in her, so until they can do that, she can't have any meds :(

Thanks everyone. Have just spoken to my brother and they are waiting on the doctor to do his morning rounds, but so far:

They finally got the drip in last night - took 1 1/2 hours, then also managed to get the lumbar puncture done although it was a bit contaminated with blood which isn't ideal, they think it is ok enough to do the test but results for that and the swabs will take 48 hours. Initial blood test results came back clear, which is great, although sometimes in babies the results don't show up positive for infections, so re-tests might be needed, but certainly not looking quite as bad as last night. Lily's temp has come down to 37.1c this morning, but she is still very sleepy. Please continue to pray for her - and for my brother and his wife. Thank you

We really cannot thank you enough for all your prayers and good thoughts! Lily appears to be on the mend! She is feeding again, to the extent that emma is getting no rest! My brother has commented on how she is like a different baby, much more alert.

They still have to await the culture tests tomorrow - lumbar puncture, swabs, etc as they took 48 hours. But, as long as they don't show up anything horrendous tomorrow, then she will be coming home!!

None of us can believe how much your prayers etc have lifted us over the last few days - Matt can't believe how at peace he and Emma have felt, despite being worried, there was much less panic in either of them once people started praying - even in Emma who is a terrible worrier.

So, thank you soooo much - you can't imagone how much your thoughts and prayers have been appreciated x

Test results came back this morning. Swab results showed up positive for Group B strep, but as the antibiotics are obviously working, they are still sending her home today!

Thank you so very very much for all of your prayers - my brother and sil are really grateful to everyone, as are we.
