HollyS

Hello all....an hour and 15 minutes to go...

I scheduled it for 9am because others have requested we do one in the morning to be more accomodating with their time zone difference.

When I came up with the theme of Patience....I was particularly tired of the cold weather and ready for spring...but mother nature hasn't been cooperating with me! Which is also why I have a kit coming out called Waiting for Spring :)

You can do layouts about important events that you had to wait for like weddings, graduations, having a child....or other things you or your loved ones waited for.

Here's a wordart to use in this speed scrap...

Hi everyone! Thank you for hanging out with me whatever time it is where you live!

I'll give you 7 steps over the next hour (every 10 minutes or so) and then you'll have an hour after that to finish your layout and upload to our Speed Scrap gallery.

Remember to post often in this thread to increase your chances of randomly winning a $5 coupon good for anything in my store!

As always, I'm always open to creative interpretation and I'm not going to count your items to make sure they match the steps given! So relax and have fun...that's what it's all about!

Ok, here we go....

HollyS

This effect is a hot new trend...

In CS2, after you add your drop shadow, you can make your drop shadow be on it's own layer. Then duplicate the drop shadow layer and rotate 2 times 90 degrees. That's how you get a sort of glow all the way around. Am trying to figure out how to do this in PSE :)

HollyS

Photoshop users go to the bottom right and click on fx drop shadow

HollyS
02-21-2010, 05:31 AM
OK, I'll wait since I'm on PSE 7.

In Effects box, pick your Layer Styles icon. Then in the drop down pick Drop Shadows and choose which one you want to add to your layer.

Then once the drop shadow is on there, you see an icon on the layer you just added it to. Click it. You can lower the opacity to make your drop shadow lighter. Also, yYou will then see a very small black box. Click that to change the color of your drop shadow. I use the eyedropper to either pick my layer i jsut added a shadow to or the background paper underneath, then choose something darker than that shade in the color box as my shadow color.

diamndprincz
02-21-2010, 05:33 AM
You can change the opacity of your shadow...I usually increase the spread and the size and decrease the opacity of the drop shadow..that way it's not to heavy and it's spread out around the entire page. (I have CS 4)

HollyS
02-21-2010, 05:35 AM
The tip I just gave is what will allow you to control how dark or the color of your drop shadow. Have another idea for handling the shadow so it's sort of glowing in PSE. Forgive me as I didn't think this through for covering PSE users too :(

What I meant is a light drop shadow, not a dark one.

Awwww... now you say. Just spent 5 minutes playing with the light rendering effects. But I may just keep it!

You can change the opacity of your shadow...I usually increase the spread and the size and decrease the opacity of the drop shadow..that way it's not to heavy and it's spread out around the entire page.

Same here ... but, this is the first time I have actually changed the color of my shadow (great tip, Holly!) ... and I thinks I likes it! I love learning something new!

Step 1: Choose one background paper
Step 2: Duplicate your background paper onto a new layer and resize it down a little and center it.
Step 3: Add a light and small drop shadow to your paper on top
Step 4: Add your photo...it can be framed, matted, extracted & blended or masked

The tip I just gave is what will allow you to control how dark or the color of your drop shadow. Have another idea for handling the shadow so it's sort of glowing in PSE. Forgive me as I didn't think this through for covering PSE users too :(

Wish I could afford CS2 ... or some version of it! I have seen some wonderful tutorials, but I can't do them because of the software I use ...

I'm gonna save post 119 to go back and play with this. I normally drop shadow then play with the opacity and placement and I think that is what you asked us to do but it sounded more complicated than what I normally do. Keep playing with this.....that's how I learn!!

My computer is acting up. It keeps telling me "program not responding". It keeps getting stuck and I don't know how to do the shadow step.LOL

I will keep trying and seeing if I can get it to work and catch up. I will stay here in the thread to read and learn.

Ok for PSE users, duplicate your paper one more time and place it in between the two paper layers you have already.

Increase the size of the middle paper layer just a little and position it so you see all 4 sides. Then choose Filter > Guassian blur and choose maybe 20 px for a good blur...

Yes, now you got that but now let's do something different. follow the directions Holly just gave about copying the top layer, making it just a little larger than the top layer. Let me go back and find the post number. good job finding the drop shadow!!! You'll use this A LOT!!!

When you are done with your layout, please upload it to the speed scrap gallery (http://www.godigitalscrapbooking.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=927) and then post in here! Can't wait to see what you come up with!

I've got a template set of 2 to give you for participating and perhaps a little something extra! Will pick a random winner tomorrow after everyone has uploaded their layout and posted here....

Ooops, didn't see this post. Will save it for later. Digi scrapping is so much fun. Makes me wonder why I hesitated digi scrapping for so long.
