Does anyone know how to make calendar like the ones we get for our desktop challenges? AND can they be created in PSE 7?

When I create desktops for myself, I start just like I would be creating any page or Quick Page (since I dont like resizing every single element or paper)
You need to know what size your computer desktop screen is
there are several standard sizes -- you can find out by right clicking your desktop screen and then personalize or properties -- then display settings.
Display settings will tell you your screen size.
If it is just going to be a web desktop -- something you wont be printing, you will want to open a new document, set the dimensions as your screen size, and you can set the resolution at 72ppi
you should be able to select your new document size in your program.

Thanks for this info. and I guess I should clarify. I am actually trying to make the actual grid for the numbers on a calendar. I normally use a template for the actual desktop so the dimensions all work but sometimes I want to get a headstart on the calendar but don't have an actual calendar. Hope I've explained this the right way.

You can easily make a grid -- you have to do some measuring -- I use the ruler guides in my software and place those everywhere I will need a line, then I will use the line tool to draw the lines where the ruler guides are
ofcourse, you can always pick up calendar templates that are pre-done, some have everything done for you, and others you pop in the .png for each month to a grid. It all depends how much work or effort you want to put in.
here are a few in the shoppe
Verena has these
Maria has these
Andrea has these, which also have the .pngs
which you can use if you just want a calendar/grid
Tricia has these for elements
and Andrea has these too -- just for desktops
any of these would suit your purposes
the calendars are there, or you pop in the dates for each month
yourself -- you can use the calendar on your computer (or google a 2010 calendar) to get the correct dates/days of week for each month
hope this gives you some ideas

Thank you so very much. I knew there were some calendars to purchase but the ones I found did not look the way I needed them to. Anyway, one of these is exactly what I'm looking for.
