I was having computer problems all day so I got a new computer, but I can't use it yet. SO, I hope to stay here in the forum with y'all, but if I have to reboot that may explain any stretches of silence from me. That said, here's the Silly Bean Speed Scrap How-To:

Please remember, if this is your first SS with me, I'm terrible with names and will call you by your username unless you tell me your real name! You've been warned!! Hehe.

Starting at the top of the hour, I will post your first instruction, followed by 1 more instruction every ten minutes through the hour.

At the top of the second hour. I will post the 7th and final instruction and then you'll have 1 additional hour to finish and post your LOs. All in all, this will take about 2 hours.

(I will allow a 15 min. grace period for gallery posting purposes. The gallery may slow down when we were all trying to post at once!)

If we have any other technical difficulties, I might also allow a few extra minutes. I will let you know.

Please note that prizes will not be given out to entries posted after this time, although we would still love to see what you have come up with!!

You must post in the Speed Scrap gallery (http://www.godigitalscrapbooking.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=927) AND link back here in the forum. If you do not post back here I will not know that you have participated and you will not be able to receive the prize.

Some important things to remember to make the Speed Scrap go a bit smoother:

- The instructions are all pretty self-explanatory, but remember that you can interpret them creatively. I may be an Army wife, but I'm no drill sergeant! Do the best you can on the instructions, but don't freak out over them. Be creative! You won't be disqualified!!

- You can use a template if you want.

- goDigitalScrapbooking products are NOT required, but of course, we love it when you use them!!

- I will re-cap all the instructions again each time I post a new instruction.

- For each instruction there must be a different element. You may not use the same element to fulfill requirements for 2 different instructions.

-At least on Windows, F5 will refresh the page. If you go up to Quick Links at the top and choose edit options, there's a feature in there to show 40 posts per thread. That helps keep the pages you see to a minimum. And most importantly...SAVE SAVE SAVE!!

Please don't stress! Speed scraps are fun. Just take the instructions to mean what YOU think they mean and have fun!!!

PLEASE, PLEASE REMEMBER - post back here when you are done so I will know you are playing along!!

Okay here is how to clip two items together in PSE:

This is an Advanced Digital technique and tutorial.

1. Go to: FILE>OPEN & find your photo. Make sure it’s about 5x7. If it’s not, go ahead & resize by going to: IMAGE>IMAGE SIZE & type in 5x7, making sure it’s still 300 dpi.

2. Go to: FILE>OPEN & open this Photo Die Cut; Scallop Swirls.

3. Your Layer Palette will look like this. So, think of your template or die cut on your table ready for you to cut out your photo.

4. With your Move Tool, drag & drop your photo onto this Photo Die Cut. This will cover your Layer 1; Scallop Swirls, so don’t worry!

5. Look at your Layers Palette. You will see that your Scallop Swirls Die Cut is still there, but the photo is covering it. That’s good!

6. Next, you want to group these layers together to get the die cut look. Depending on the photo editing software program you use, you will do it differently.
In Photoshop CS+; Go to: LAYER>CREATE CLIPPING MASK.
In Photoshop 7; Go to: LAYER> GROUP LAYERS.
In Photoshop Elements 4+; Go to: LAYERS>GROUP PREVIOUS.

7. Look at your Layers Palette & you will see an Arrow showing it is grouped with the Layer underneath.

8. With this grouping/clipping, your photo will magically take on the shape you have underneath it. Isn’t that cool?

Now, each photo will be different & some may or may not work with this particular Photo Die Cut. So, be sure to experiment with the various shapes for each photo.

If you have the png shape or mask, drag it to under your photo. If you have PSCS+ then press ctrl+G while your photo is active. If you have PSE4+ then go to layer>Group Layer.

In both cases, your photo will take on the shape of the layer under it

Silly Bean
03-06-2009, 06:18 PM
Pretend the "die cut" mentioned is the shape or brush that you want your pic to be.

elenasworld

you place the photo over the "mask" or shape you want to clip, then you create a clipping mask. you can move the photo around to get it right where you want, and then you merge the two layers.

2. Choose two patterned papers for your background. Layer them over each other somehow.

3. Mat your photo with a solid paper that is the third most common color in your photo. To do this, look at your pic, the color that jumps out at your first is the most common color. The one you notice next is the second most common color. The one you notice after that would be (you guessed it!) your third common color. Mat your photo with that.

So you could create rectangles, then group them together in one thing, place that beneath your photo and then group the mat you created with the photo. Clear as mud?

Make a new layer and draw a circle. Then in the layers palette move your circle so that it's beneath your photo. Hold down the ALT key and click on the line that's between the photo and the circle. That should clip the photo to the circle. You can also right click on the photo and choose "create clipping mask." Then when you like how the pic is positioned on the circle, you can type control + e, or right click and choose group layers.

If you don't want to do either, then add three elements...one for journaling, one for dating, and one cuz you stubbornly don't want to follow directions. And hoorah, you're done!

This was great - and normally would have been easy - but the stars must be all out of alignment tonight. It wasn't just this layout I lost, it was photos and elements from several disks that I was working on putting together. that's what I get for trying to keep too much open at once - lol. oh well, c'est la vie. i should have done everything from the main computer instead of trying to use this one :) But i can work on this one late at night if I can't sleep!

I have plenty of good kits with all that, and they just *poof* disappeared - lol

and I used a kit I loved, but for some reason i'm not sure it goes with the photo.

but aside from opening a different kit and starting from scratch, i think i'm done

Okay here is how to clip two items together in PSE:

This is an Advanced Digital technique and tutorial.

1. Go to: FILE>OPEN & find your photo. Make sure itís about 5x7. If itís not, go ahead & resize by going to: IMAGE>IMAGE SIZE & type in 5x7, making sure itís still 300 dpi.

This will cover your Layer 1; Scallop Swirls, so donít worry!

5. Look at your Layers Palette. You will see that your Scallop Swirls Die Cut is still there, but the photo is covering it. Thatís good!

Isnít that cool?

Now, each photo will be different & some may or may not work with this particular Photo Die Cut. So, be sure to experiment with the various shapes for each photo.

This was copied from: http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/cg_display.asp?g=4&seed_id=24143

I was going to try this to figure out what you guys were talking about when I realized i don't have the scallop swirls. At first I thought it was a shape included in the program. but i had a mask, so life is ok :)

the easiest way to post the thumbnail size image is to go to your user's gallery. you will see all your layouts in the thumbnail. right click on the one you want and select "copy image location" -- the wording is a bit different depending on if you have vista, IE, etc

now go back to the thread you want to post the thumbnail
you will see a mountain icon with the sun/moon
click on this and paste the image location you just copied from your layout's thumbnail. this will add the image to the body of your post

hope this helps
